The margins of the Arrocampo Reservoir and some nearby ponds are surrounded by a dense mass of vegetation formed mainly by Thypa latifolia. This vegetation is the habitat to an interesting and varied community of birds, which has the presence of scarce species and with a reduced distribution area, being this birds also difficult to find in other places of Extremadura.

- A total of 9 species of ardeidae (herons) have been cited as breeders, which means that all heron species in Europe are present here. Spoonbills are also observed throughout the year.

- Among the vegetation we can find other birds very representative of Arrocampo as the purple swamp, but also others that are more unnoticed as the water rail or some crakes (Spotted Crake, Little Crake o Baillon´s Crake) during the migratory periods.

- Among the birds of prey there is the Lesser Kestrel that has a colony nearby, the Black-shouldered Kite has here one of the best places for observation, the Osprey usually appears in periods of passage and wintering, the Marsh Harrier is breeding and during the winter forms great roosts.

- If we visit the nearby mountains we can see imperial eagle, golden eagle, European Short-toed, Booted Eagle, Egyptian Vulture and Peregrine Falcon among other raptors.

Depending on the time of year, you can see an important variety of small marsh birds, such as Savi´s Warbler, Bearded Reedling, Penduline Tit, Reed Bunting or Bluethroat among others.
